"Life is a buffet."
— Despite everything, Zach tries to stay positive

Zach Eikleberry is a cable installation mechanic who shows up at the Psych office because he suspects his wife Gretchen is having an affair at work with fellow teacher Derek Bagg. He doesn't want to lose her but admits he would cheat too if he were in her position, married to a fragile, emasculated man many years her senior whom she met in her freshman year of college while he was employed there as campus security. Gus immediately identifies with him because he believes he's facing similar troubles in his relationship with Emmanuelle, and agrees to help him out for free.

Not long after Psych's investigation, Bagg shows up dead after having been beaten to a pulp. Zach is taken into custody after Brannigan finds a threatening letter from him at the crime scene and even more of them at Zach's nightly job at the Craven Lanes bowling alley. Zach claims he only wrote those letters to blow off steam and would never stand a chance against "Muscles McHandsomeface" (which Gretchen agrees with), but he is nevertheless booked and placed in jail.

Shawn and Gus continue their investigation and just as Shawn discovers that the real culprit was in fact the enforcer of a disgruntled bookie, Brannigan is again one step ahead and has already ordered Zach's release. Gretchen never left his side and claims she wants to reestablish what they had before, yet wants him to have a complete makeover including extensive waxing. Zach is pleased to hear this but still shows concern about her continued ogling of other men, including Buzz.

Trivia[]

  • Zach is a rather maladious individual. Throughout the episode, he is said to have carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica (which doesn't allow him to carry his own toolbox), a bad heart, gout, irritable bowel syndrome, webbed feet, and allergies to everything.
  • The name 'Eikleberry' was chosen because this is the real last name of Dean Cameron, the actor who portrays Zach.
