Ruby Jay is an adrenaline junkie and briefly Gus's girlfriend during S4E11 "Thrill Seekers and Hell Raisers". She and her friends Jessica Martino, Derek Walker and Stuart Crawford often take part in extreme sports, and when Shawn decides that he wants to vet her some more after she passed his first test successfully, he and Gus meet them at Berman's Bend as they are about to go river rafting.
When Stu suddenly disappears during the adventure, Shawn is certain that Ruby had something to do with it given her insistence that Stu sit in the back of the raft. Gus later admits this to Ruby, and she excitedly exclaims that Shawn really must be a psychic, puzzling Gus. She explains that Stu wanted a few days to collect himself because he was in some sort of trouble and needed her help to get away. Gus promises not to give this information to Shawn, but he cannot handle the pressure and visits her at the climbing wall to beg her to tell Shawn everything. After finding out that the situation has escalated because Stu is now suspected of killing his former business partner Brian Sampson, Ruby tells our duo that Stu is hiding out in Lone Pine, CA. The police then find Stu's dead body there after an apparent suicide.
To cope with Stu's death and clear her head, she goes paragliding together with Derek. However, she looks at Derek's GPS as they are about to take off and notices that Lone Pine is in it. His gruesome secret discovered, Derek proceeds towards her menacingly and almost walks her off the cliff, but Shawn and Gus arrive just in time to save her. Gus's subsequent bravery in bringing Derek's paraglider to the ground as he tries to make a break for it wins him Ruby's admiration, but she nevertheless later breaks up with him after claiming that their relationship started off so exciting that it is hard to gauge her true feelings towards him.
