Psychphrancisco (stylized all in lower case) is the private psychic detective agency Shawn and Gus start after moving out to San Francisco. As with the original Psych in Santa Barbara, Psychphrancisco mostly does consulting work for the local police department.
General Information[]
Psychphrancisco is located in San Francisco's Chinatown in an office that cannot be directly seen from the street. You need to enter a dark doorway in an alley and go down some stairs in order to get to the façade. Gus has a big problem with this given that it makes their office hard to find, but apparently Shawn did honor his two demands that it be adjacent to the cable car and within smelling distance of Ghirardelli Square. The backdoor leads to a tunnel that ends in Nob Hill.
Shawn and Gus also differ on the name. Shawn thinks it is "spun gold", but Gus objects and says that it "literally looks like a bunch of letters pushed together" and makes no sense, making it even harder to get walk-up traffic.
Shawn designed the office's interior to look like part of Mr. Wing's antique shop in the special edition of Gremlins. The window displays the name of the business and three Traditional Chinese characters (侦探社) that romanize to zhēntàn shè and simply mean "detective agency", so no direct reference is made to Shawn's supposed abilities. This is very different from the window of the original Psych office, which said "Private Psychic Detective" right underneath the name.
