Little Boy Cat is a calico cat known to be female because all calicos are (barring males born with the rare Klinefelter syndrome). She was the only other creature present when her owner Mortimer Tilden was murdered by Wes Hiltonbock, prompting Shawn to declare her a witness that he should and can communicate with in an attempt to give his theory of murder over suicide a bit more credibility. Gus is a bit jealous of Little Boy Cat throughout the episode, as Shawn devotes much of his attention to her and she gets to enjoy privileges such as riding shotgun because she gets carsick easily. Her first notable act as aid to the police force is to draw attention to the dry-cleaned pantsuit in the car of Gloria Starks, Hiltonbock's third victim, by urinating on it. Her second is a tad more heroic, as she jumps on Hiltonbock while he and the SBPD are enveloped in an intense stand-off, thereby disarming and incapacitating the killer and allowing Lassiter to overpower him. Shawn is a proud father and decides to give Little Boy Cat to the person she saved from becoming Hiltonbock's fourth victim, Buzz McNab, as a wedding gift.

- Little Boy Cat's gender is later confirmed beyond all doubt when Gus complains about "riding shotgun to a cat, which, by the way, was not a boy at all" during S2E4 "Zero to Murder in Sixty Seconds". When Gus takes offense at Shawn referring to Lassiter as "partner" during S3E8 "Gus Walks into a Bank", Shawn acknowledges this correction by stating "you got to admit, it's better than a little boy cat... or a little girl cat."
