Lavender McElroy is the head nurse at the West Haven Psychiatric Center and the one running group therapy, which means she is the person to introduce fake patient Shawn to the rest of the group.
When Shawn and Gus see her give Bernie Bethel a different pill than the one he normally gets, they suspect chief of staff Abel Elliott ordered her to change the dosage after being paid by someone who wants to keep Bernie insane. Elliott is found dead in his office shortly after, however, which leads our duo to believe that instead Lavender is the one being paid to change Bernie's dosage and that she later killed Elliott when he found out about it, before going even further by ordering electroshock therapy for Bernie in order to wipe his memory.
Shawn and Gus save Bernie and go to confront Lavender, and she admits she was being paid to keep Bernie insane but denies killing Elliott. Our duo know she is telling the truth when Daniel Bethel suddenly shows up waving a gun around, making it clear that he is the one paying Lavender and trying to keep his brother insane at all costs in order to acquire his fortune. Lavender's love for jazz and specifically Kenny G then comes in handy when Shawn plays it to incapacitate Daniel by triggering Bernie's fear of sax music.
