Klaus Goedecke is a hitman who appears on the SBPD radar when a second shoe print is found next to the late Warren Dern's and Brannigan traces it back to Goedecke via CCTV footage of him near a local ATM as he took out the $50 bill he and Dern paid with at a tollbooth. She finds out he booked room 418 at the Gordon Mark hotel and takes a SWAT team there, but all they find is a murdered Goedecke.
When Shawn and Gus go back to the room alone, they remember that there used to be a specialized Pelican Pick N Pluck pistol pack on the floor and conclude Goedecke was a hitman in town for a job, which certainly lines up with Brannigan's discoveries that he had a "rapidly improving rap sheet" and "recently made a sizable cash deposit." They realize this also means he must have known whoever it was that killed him, because otherwise he would have been more careful and not even opened the door. They find a map in the room and are led to the shallow grave of Chris Cheramie, who Woody determines was not killed by Goedecke because the murder doesn't fit a hitman's MO.
When Woody informs our duo that he found brake dust on the sleeve of Goedecke's jacket, they realize he must have hidden something under his car and visit the station's impound lot. They find the gun that killed Cheramie, and while taking a break at Bosseigh High they are confronted by Ian Collins, who had followed them and wants the weapon back because he's the one who fired it. During their conversation, it comes out that Ian had hired Goedecke to kill Warren, who tried to save himself by suggesting they blackmail Ian with the gun. Goedecke figured he might as well do that alone and killed him anyway, but was then killed himself by Ian. After a wild car chase, Ian is arrested by Henry.
Trivia[]
- His shoe size is 12 wide, and Brannigan figures he must be around 6 feet tall based on his shoes' weight imprint in the woods.
- Woody wants to keep Goedecke's flaxen-haired jacket because he doesn't have any hitman clothes and it "accentuates both my spring features and my third shoulder blade."
