Kellen is a crime scene photographer who was secretly having a relationship with notorious tennis player Deanna Sirtis, who went missing and was later found in critical condition from an attempt on her life Kellen was responsible for.

Shawn, yearning hungrily for a case, is partnered with the team when pretends to "sense" she's missing from glancing at information he saw from a distance of her case file. They learned despite her father, Leonard, being overbearing, she loved photography, wore an eternity ring that must've been from a lover, and even had a security camera because of stalker Felix Alvarez. At the tennis club, Deanna's partner said she really wanted a relationship, but her father broke her and another player up, which obviously lead to her relationship being kept on the down-low under Leonard's nose. At a spa Spencer and Gus visit, noticing it advertises the same nail paint, they find another address she ordered some products to be shipped to. Tragically, the duo are two late: first responders and crime scene processors are at the scene while she's being loaded into an ambulance unconscious and on oxygen. She was found nearly killed by a strong blow to her head. The boyfriend appears to have been there from more jewelry like her eternity ring. Along with Deanna in a bunch of pictures on a wall display, so is a trophy, which is missing and presumed to be the assault weapon. It's found in Alvarez's car, and he's brought into the stages on attempted murder charges. However, his court psychiatrist completely rehabilitated him, and he was too physically weak to be violent from kidney failure for which he was receiving dialysis. Spencer figures it out from seeing the crime scene photos: the shadows are off and the clocks are wrong, as well as the lights near a restaurant across the street not activating when the pictures are timed. He realizes the photos are tampered with, and that one displayed picture frame is missing. Only one possible culprit could've done this without more noticeable discrepancy: Kellen, the photographer at the crime scene. He dated Deanna when processing the scenes of Alvarez's break-ins, falling in love over their shared passions of photography. The apartment was a secret kept from Leonard so they could date and be intimate outside of his watch, explaining her disappearance. What answers to her murder is she, being "boy crazy", as her tennis partner put it, wanted another man, the other tennis player, and to break up with Kellen. In a rejected rage, he grabbed the trophy and smashed it into her head, knowing Alvarez being found with the trophy would make him a quick, easy fall-guy. Spencer, in the reveal at the station to the rest of the team, remembers exactly what photograph was missing: a picture of Deanna with his bag in the background, monogramed with his initials. Karen has him arrested until they can gather more to prove Spencer's accusations, and when they do, Kellen fully confesses, leading to his imprisonment.
