- "The police? The police couldn't catch bird flu at a Hong Kong duck farm."
- — Jervis cannot hide his disdain
Jervis Kent is a part-time security guard at the Glorious Pines retirement community. He is worried when his best friend and resident of the home Oswald Chester goes missing, but both the police and the home's staff blow off his concerns. He believes the home is trying to cover it up and hires Shawn and Gus to help investigate. He has arranged that Henry, who was tricked into joining the team undercover as Talmadge McGulager, gets to share Oswald's room to guarantee easy access. However, Henry discovers Jervis is hiding from them that Oswald has disappeared many times before and always came back on his own. Jervis says that he knows something is different this time as he could always tell beforehand when Oswald was getting restless and wanted to get away for a bit. Henry is annoyed and doesn't think this is worth their time, but Shawn and Gus ignore him and decide to continue helping Jervis based on the evidence in Oswald's room.
When Shawn, Gus and Jervis are at the station to present new developments in the case, Jervis confronts Karen, Lassiter and Juliet by saying "shouldn't you call forensics in, look at wills, interview beneficiaries? I learned that at the police academy." This approach backfires massively, as Juliet now realizes that Jervis is "the guy who set his black-and-white on fire during the academy road test" and Lassiter remembers that he "shot someone's toe off at the police firing range" (although Jervis contends that "it didn't come all the way off"). Despite this huge loss of face they are at least allowed to keep investigating after Shawn mentions all three victims were wearing the same bracelets, which Jervis explains were made by Chelsea.
As Shawn is wrapping up his confrontation of Meredith Cloverfield later that day and yells out for someone to check her pockets for blood pressure pills, Jervis quickly steps in and indeed finds them on her person. As they make their exit, Shawn and Gus tell Jervis to call the police and keep her in his custody until they arrive. The fact that Jervis was right to suspect something all along presumably ensures he will be taken more seriously in the future.
Trivia[]
- He apparently has "a theory based on formaldehyde and mind control" around Oswald's disappearance, as well as an "identical twins theory."
