Remake A.K.A. Cloudy... With a Chance of Improvement[]

Horace Leland (portrayed by Ray Wise) is the judge that presides over the trial of Sandra Panitch, who is accused of murdering Jackson Hale. He has a hard time believing defense lawyer Adam Hornstock along with his legal consultants Shawn and Gus will be able to exonerate Sandra and additionally prove who Hale's real killer is. He later holds Gus in contempt when he starts stalling the trial to buy Shawn the time he needs to arrive at the courthouse and orders Bailiff Comonsat to take him away.

Cloudy... With a Chance of Murder[]

In the original episode, Leland (portrayed by Donnelly Rhodes) initially treats Shawn with a measure of disdain, as he doesn't believe in his "psychic mumbo jumbo". When Gus is able to deduce from the judge's gait that he must have a kidney stone, however, Shawn puts an end to his scepticism by conveying this information to him under the pretense of having received it psychically. Leland is grateful for Shawn's subsequent advice involving asparagus and can be seen applying it in later scenes.

As the original episode features no scene of Gus stalling the trial, Leland never holds him in contempt and doesn't have to have him dragged from the courtroom by the bailiff.

Trivia[]

  • In S5E14 "The Polarizing Express", Leland is mentioned by the DA as the judge who ruled a mistrial in the Czarsky case after it was discovered that Shawn obtained vital evidence by trespassing.
