In "[[No Trout About It]]", Harris Trout is hired by the mayor of [[Santa Barbara]] to find out what happened in a poorly investigated case. He interviews the employees of the [[Santa Barbara Police Department|SBPD]], only to be disgusted with their recent performances. He is upset to finding inter-office dating, hiring psychics, near strangling of fellow officers, and an officer worker as a part-time stripper. When the case takes a new turn, he suspends everyone who had been currently working on it, including [[Juliet O'Hara|Juliet]], [[Carlton Lassiter|Lassiter]], [[Shawn Spencer|Shawn]], and [[Burton "Gus" Guster|Gus]]. Instead of obeying his orders, the gang solves the case anyway. At the end of the episode, [[Karen Vick|Chief Vick]] announces that she has been given a six-month suspension and, active immediately, Trout is the new interim police chief. He fires Shawn and Gus, demotes Lassiter from head detective, and fires [[Buzz McNab|McNab]].

Harris Trout is a consultant hired by the mayor to whip the SBPD back into shape in "No Trout About It". He was made the interim police chief at the end of the episode. He is fired as interim police chief at the end of Someone's Got a Woody, due to his dangerous handling of a hostage situation. He is portrayed by Anthony Michael Hall.
