- The mayor's name is a reference to the douglas fir trees that Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks is amazed by on his drive into town.
- A strange moment occurs when Andrew Jackson announces Mayor Douglas Fir at the Cinnamon Festival and he doesn't actually appear. This is because the role had been set aside for Twin Peaks creator David Lynch, who ended up never being asked because writer James Roday Rodriguez was concerned about Lynch's opinion of their homage episode.
