Chris Cheramie is a land speculator whose body is found by Shawn and Gus in a shallow grave in the woods after they were led there by a map concealed in hitman Klaus Goedecke's hotel room. They know he wasn't killed by Goedecke because Woody explains that the handful of bullets that killed him are distributed willy-nilly all over his body and a 9mm handgun isn't a hitman's likely weapon of choice. Gus does an online search and finds a Santa Barbara Mirror article explaining Cheramie came to Santa Barbara three years ago to bid on a lot but never made it to the auction, and when they discover the auction was won by Ian Collins and Warren Dern they know who the killers are. Warren had already been killed himself in a conflict centered around the murder weapon, while Ian would be arrested by Henry soon afterwards.
