William George Zane is an actor best known for his roles in the film Titanic and the Back to the Future franchise. He also portrayed Ian Collins in the Psych episode "The Break-Up".

  • Zane was mentioned several times throughout the show before appearing in the series finale:
  1. In S2E9 "Bounty Hunters!", Shawn calls Delbecchio's houseboat "the boat from Dead Calm," to which Gus responds "Great, now we have to worry about Billy Zane too?" in reference to Zane's role as the villain in that film.
  2. In S2E14 "Dis-Lodged", Gus introduces Shawn to Doris as "William Zane", later shortening it to "Billy".
  3. In S4E9 "Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark", Gus and Juliet are looking through Shawn's internet search history and see "billyzane.thumbnail/hair.com".
  4. In S4E12 "A Very Juliet Episode", Shawn says about John T. Waring that "there's something really Billy Zane-ian about him" because he has "a great head and a real presence," to which Gus responds "You and Billy Zane are the only ones who use that term." Shawn later also refers to Waring's "Billy Zane-ian qualities" during his stand-off with Daniel Wayne.
  5. In S5E6 "Viagra Falls", Shawn says that a bouncer they want to get around "looks like a Billy Zane action figure" and wonders how much he'd cost.
  6. In "Psych: The Musical", Yang explains that Z had been living inside the theater and calls him "the phantom" in reference to The Phantom of the Opera, but Shawn immediately says "Billy Zane", alluding to the 1996 superhero film The Phantom with Zane in the title role. Gus then says "The other phantom," to which Shawn replies "There is no other phantom."
