Amerigo Vespucci Catalon Estevez is a Cuban homeoneurotraumatist enlisted by Dr. Emile Herschel to treat Lassiter's "fantasies". Since he hasn't actually arrived at the Herschel House yet, Shawn hatches a plan to impersonate the doctor in order to find out more about the mysterous goings-on at the recovery home from the inside. However, since the dress rehearsal (which consists of wearing a fake mustache and putting on a ridiculous Cuban accent) on Maisie is an abject failure, Shawn decides to introduce an unknown face into the equation: Woody.
Woody, who fortunately already sports a mustache, uses the flight to Santa Barbara to learn everything there is to know about Catalon, although most of it seems made up and none of it really relates to the job. Nevertheless, Woody is confident he can pass for Catalon and even threw in a limp and accent for good measure. Things go swimmingly at first, as Woody is allowed into the home by receptionist Shannon despite not being able to spell Catalon's name, and once inside he actually finds important evidence. However, just after Woody has decided that he likes being Catalon so much that he will keep up the act even after the case has been solved, Dr. Herschel informs him that "there appears to be someone here claiming to be you." As Woody flees the premises, he actually encounters the real Catalon and quickly takes off his hat to greet him.
Trivia[]
- This plot line bears a strong resemblance to Henry's impersonation of Talmadge McGulager in S2E12 "The Old and the Restless", as both Henry and Woody pass themselves off as someone else to work a case at a home and both flee the premises when the real deal arrives.
Quotes[]
Woody: But more importantly, how does Catalon feel about his mother and her unriddling dominance over him and his seven siblings?
Gus: He's an only child.
Woody: In his mind, yes, but that's how he managed to survive in a world he distrusted and the loss of the only woman he had ever loved: Esmerelda, hostess at the tobacco farm where he spent his formative summers. Editor's note: his bicycle had a banana seat.
